The Story
01022020 Evening: We went to STF Abisko's main building and had our pre-booked dinner. Tonight's meal is cured rainbow trout for appetiser, reindeer as the main dish and molten chocolate cake for dessert. My friends did not have to pay for their wine and beer because our dessert came an hour late. The waitress apologise for the dessert's unusual delay and said that the drinks are on the house. By the way, the chef is a French. Do you notice now that most of the staff are foreigners?

After dinner, we went for sauna (part of our cottage's price) and took about an hour. We went back to the cottage and got ourselves out again by 9pm. We were checking intermittently the live camera from Abisko Sky Station if there were any signs of the Northern Lights but there were none. We went to the open area behind the train station and a group of Chinese tourists were there. Gosh, they were loud! And one of them was flashing with their torchlight. I went to them and told them to lower their voices because the Swedes were getting uncomfortable with their loud chatter. One of the Chinese tourists asked why and that shocked me. Why? Gosh, it must be a norm for them to be heard everywhere. I said that you are all loud. Finally, we decided to leave the place and walked to a bridge that was close to the Canyon and near STF Abisko. We stood there till 10.55pm and the Northern Lights gradually appeared. It was a small white light and then it disappeared. The white lights appeared again and it got bigger and longer. Then, I saw the 'dance'! It was exactly what I see in television except that it is white in colour but it turned out green in the photos. A friend mentioned that it is green when the solar activity is stronger. It was 2 that night.

We enjoyed the performance in the sky for 30 minutes. It was beautiful. The next day, I checked Abisko Sky Station website and saw that the lights lasted till 2.30am.
