Maliau Basin : Part 6 - Day 4 : Back to Civilisation

09072016 : Today, we walk 9km back to Agathis Camp. While everyone was packing their stuff, I was taking photos. I had not much to pack. Look at all the clothes hung and strewn on the posts to be dried.

We go to the kitchen by crossing the thin plank. It is a very sturdy plank.

And for breakfast, behold. Sort of fried rice with omelette, sausages and fishball.

Our lunch pack. Lots of snacks. We are ready to leave by 830am.

Midway back, we stopped for a break and I was exercising my shoulders. It was aching from the bag's weight. We were pretty early to reach back.

Another 1km back to Agathis Camp, back to where we started. It was only 11.20am. We arrived at Agathis Camp at 11.30am. It is amazing we took 10 minutes to walk 1km. That is a really fast walk. My knees were aching already. I am not sure if it due to the descending trail or the cold waters in Ginseng Waterfalls

Of course, everyone else has arrived before me. Haha. It was 3 hours back compared to our journey there which took 5 hours. We cleaned ourselves up in the river behind Agathis Camp and had lunch. Check out my packed lunch - fried noodles with fried chicken wing.

We tried a local food which name has slipped off my memory now.

The 4WD that brought us to Agathis Camp picked us up to send us back to Tawau town. We checked out and recorded our time out at the guard post where we were required to register individually during our arrival 2 days ago.

The journey to Tawau town took us 3 hours. It was a very bumpy ride to town. An hour before we arrived at town, my telephone line appeared. It is Celcom, by the way.

We stayed in Heritage Hotel in Tawau town. It was a windowless room, the cheapest. We thought of having seafood for dinner but there were no seafood restaurants we could find as they were closed due to the Eid Mubarak holidays. We got better luck the next day - seafood noodles for breakfast in the next post!
