Labuan : Part 1 - Pasar Tani

Labuan is a duty-free island situated off the coast of East Malaysia. Note the most important word is 'duty-free'. I had a one whole free day in Labuan on a lovely Sunday, and decided that in the morning, I will go to the Farmers' Market i.e. Pasar Tani. Labuan is a small place and has not many tourist areas, and people are usually here for work. And the most common occupation here is offshore mechanics and engineers working with the oil and gas industry.

And the minute I looked down, I love the pavement. Hence, the reason of a foot selfie.

I saw the amazing handcraft. The stall owner knits cakes and cupcakes and muffins, and also an egg-holder. They look almost real.

We got a tourist booklet at the airport and there were a list of local delicacies to try. The first we tried is Penjaram. Wheat flour and rice flour and sugar. That is the main ingredients. Selling 3 for RM1.00.

Next, we bought Kelupis Pulut. Glutinous rice with prawn paste inside. RM0.50 a piece.

Must-have coconut pudding! RM1.50 for one. It is sweet.

Next is Kek Batik. Made of cocoa powder, condensed milk and broken pieces of Marie-brand biscuits.

Punjung tastes like kuih lapis. Now, kuih lapis is not to be confused with kek lapis. Well, sometimes, I accidentally use the wrong word. What they use - rice flour, sugar, dessicated coconut and banana leaf as the wrap. It feels spongy.

And finally, lamban. Made from glutinous rice and coconut milk, and eaten with peanut paste. Or any paste. Or curry. Anything hot and spicy.

And we are stuffed after experimenting all the above.
