Playing with Water : Part 2 - Sg Congkak Recreational Forest

I am sorry I took so long to write this post. It has been almost a week since my last post. I am not sure why the delay, but somehow I am not so keen to write.. this is wrong. I love writing. I think I am tied up with pressuring myself to run, and researching details on my travels. Guess what, readers? I am going to Nepal this September to do my EBC Trek! Yahoo! Hallalujah! I am making it happen. About the running, I am doing alternate jogs to meet my ultimate aim - run the Standard Chartered Half Marathon. It is not easy this training, I tell you. Right now, I can jog 14km only. And the day when I ran that extra round to increase my stamina... I vomited. Something I never imagined. Stomach cramp - experienced. And now, I can add vomiting to my list of extremity.

So, let me continue my day trip in Sungai Congkak. Now, Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest was beyond my wildest imagination, mostly because it is SO COMMERCIALISED. Good thing for families who would like to go for a picnic with their kids. Not-so-good thing for the adventurous seekers (ahem.. like as if I am). Well, I chose this place, mostly because it was in a random website I googled for must-see places in Selangor. Sungai Congkak Recreational Forest is just 9km away from Sungai Gabai. Finding this place was supposed to be easy but we missed the turning because it was 1) the signboards were clustered up (look at the photo) and 2) the signboard is pretty small!

There was a carpark where we needed to pay RM3. What a rip-off. Because after 6pm, the stall whose owner own this carpark close his stall and anyone can park for free. Unfair.

I was very surprised when I entered into the area. It was so safe. The road is tarred! The entrance fee is RM1 per person. I find it so hard to believe this is what you call a Recreational Forest... I guess, compared to Hutan Lipur Kanching, this is way more commercialised. Sungai Congkak is along the road. There are lots of picnic spots, lots of spots to sit - proper spots with a table and stools.

I am such a sissy. The water is so shallow. Look at me.. walking so ... carefully. *shameful*

Lots of ice-cream man in the area. I got a special ice-cream. And what is so special - there is sprinkles of peanuts and chocolate sauce. Quite nice in this hot weather.

We walked further up, and saw sites for camp. One can rent the site for RM10 a day, and if you wish to rent a tent, its RM20/day for a large tent, and RM15/day for a small tent. If you rent a tent site, you can bring your car in.

Our last destination - The Famous Burger Bakar Kaw-Kaw.

The price list. It is famous because the patties are home-made and large and grilled. Each of us took the single chicken patty. I took the Cheesy Turkeyniser which is RM11.50, while my friends took the Turkeyniser (without cheese sauce) which is RM10.50.

I read that people have to queue up to get a number and waiting time can take up to 3 hours! We were so lucky because there was no queue. So, we managed to place our orders immediately.

After about 15 minutes, our food came! Mine was the chicken patty with cheese sauce and a slice of turkey ham and cheese. So filling. I actually took 10 minutes to finish it. And 10 minutes is forever. My jaws ached from all the chewing.

Overall - excellent day it had been! Now, back to googling must-see places in Selangor. I wished nature was not so far from town. But that is totally impossible. Now that the Chinese New Year holidays are over, I am back to wondering what to do during the weekend, except dragging myself out from the bed at 5am - to jog. Yes, I agree with what your are thinking - nuts.
