Munich & Bolzano: Part 10 - Day 8: Train from Bolzano to Munich, Hofbräuhaus

Here is a summary of what is spent on Day 8.

6/8 Day 8: Took the ÖBB train from Bolzano to Munich. ÖBB trains are from Austria. Departed from Bolzano at 10.34am and arrived in Munich at 2.27pm. Had dinner at Hofbräuhaus.

Must-Incur Costs
(1) 2nd class train ticket from Bolzano to Munich - EUR59,90 per person, reserve seat - EUR3,50 per person. The ticket price back is more expensive than from Munich to Bolzano that costs EUR27,90 per person. Odd that it can costs EUR30 extra.

Optional Costs
(1) Hotel Bayer's Munich - EUR325,36 for 2 nights for 3 persons. About SEK1146 per person. The night of 6 Aug was more expensive (EUR175,41) than the 7 August (EUR149,95). The receptionist mentioned that there was an event in town. Also, the price does not include breakfast. It was definitely much cheaper to stay in Hotel Europa (SEK1002 per person including breakfast) when we arrived in Munich on 31 July but it was about 1.5km away from the train station whereas Hotel Bayer's was 200m from the train station.

(3) Dinner at Hofbräuhaus - Lemonade 400ml EUR4,10; Schweinshaxe EUR17,90; Sauerkraut shared EUR4,60; Apple strudel EUR6,90; Radler 500ml EUR4,95

The Story
060822 - Our stay in Bolzano ends today and we take the train back from Bolzano to Munich. I am happy to leave this place as it was very hot and we are going back to a cooling Munich. I saw from the weather forecast that it was rainy and 22 degrees.

For breakfast, we had at the same place in Vital Coffee. I took photos of the range of sandwiches and pastries that they have.

We checked out from the Airbnb and made our way to the train station. In the train, I sat next to a German traveller and she informed me that she and her companion had stayed in the Dolomites and it was very cooling with a beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset. I did not know that one could stay in the mountains. I admit, I did not do sufficient research for this trip as it has been such a long time since I travelled. They stayed in one of the mountain huts and food was limited as well as expensive, but they could take the cable car to Bolzano town to buy groceries. The cable car tickets' were included in the accommodation that they stayed in. It would have been nice to stay in the mountains so one could hike many days in the Dolomites.

Arriving in Munich, we made our way to the hotel. I booked a hotel because Airbnbs were not strategically located close to the train station. Plus, we were not going to do any laundry so a hotel is fine. For dinner, we made our way to the famous Hofbräuhaus to have the schwinshaxe. This beer hall that was originally built in 1589 is SO huge and the noise was deafening indoors! I had to shout to my company to get their attention. Despite the space, we got our food within 30 minutes. I thought there were many kitches but the waiter said that there is only one kitchen. Gosh, they work really fast! By the way, many historical events took place in this beer hall so it is worth it to read up on this place.

After our filling meal, we decided to go for a walk to check out some historical monuments. We walked to the monument of King Maximilian II of Bavaria and Maximilianeum that houses the Bavarian State Parliament.

Then, we walked back to Hofbräuhaus to have some dessert - apple strudel and a radler! We could not find a spot indoors and decided to sit outdoors which was a good idea so we could hear ourselves.
