The Story
010822: We had breakfast in the hotel. The usual sausage, scrambled eggs, bread, jam, juice and coffee. Nothing out of the ordinary so I did not take any photos. After breakfast, we walked to English Garden which was about 2.5km away. Along the way, we passed by Odeonsplatz and Hofgarten Park.

This is Odeonsplatz. I am standing in front of The Feldherrnhalle (Field Marshal's Hall).

Commissioned by Ludwig I, it was completed by famous Munich architect Friedrich von Gärtner in 1844 and erected in honor of the Bavarian army. Two large marble lions stand guard at the staircase. Inside the hall, there are bronze statues of the militariy leaders Tilly and Wrede and the Bavarian Army Monument. Source from Muenchen.

This famous yellow structure is The Theatiner Church which has a very huge door.

Satisfied with Odeonsplatz, we continued our way to Hofgarten Park which has very striking red flowers. By now, the sun was shining hard and I am thankful I have a cap.

The Hofgarten, one of Munich's most beautiful parks, borders Odeonsplatz to the east and can be reached through the Hofgarten Gate, which is well worth seeing. The gate was the first building of the legendary architect Leo von Klenze. Behind it stretches an oasis of peace, for the noise of the city can hardly be heard here. Shortly, we found ourselves in the English Garden. There is a river that flows through the garden and professional surfers can surf here. Pretty awesome!

Finally, we stopped at our first beer garden in the English Garden! It was much looked forward to. I had a radler which is a mixture of soda and beer and I was not affected by the alcohol at all. I thought the place looks like a outdoor food court in Malaysia, but boy, was I wrong. To be a beer garden, the furniture needs to be green. There are chestnut trees in the garden because previously, beer was stored underground under these trees as the trees provide a cooling shade.

I am very happy with my radler but not too happy with the very salty pretzel. Apparently, the salt binds the liquid and one does not have the urge to pee after drinking 500ml.

Next to the beer garden is a Chinese Tower which is 25 metres high.

Cigarette vending machine.

The place to return the empty beer mugs and get your deposit in return. I guess this is a way to discourage people from taking the beer mugs home as souvenirs. It is a EUR1 deposit.

Then, we went to look for a bathing spot which is along Isar river. The water is cold for me and the stones were painful to my feet. There was no sand. It hurts, really.
