The Story

170618 Afternoon : From the Arctic Circle in Jokkmokk, we went into Jokkmokk town. We stopped to see a Sami sculpture park and a garden next to it. Before that, we saw a playground where I attempted to do a little bit of climbing. I was surprised at how I could climb to the top although I got frightened a bit for staying too long at the top while looking down.

Saw a mineral path i.e. a path with displays of the different types of minerals that can be found in Norrland. It was too technical for me and I lost my interest after the third stone. Haha!

This is one of the sculptures in the park. Actually, it is the biggest and the first one we saw.

This stone sculpture is named Guossi Guest. The name means guest and refers to the stone which was brought from Kautokeino and placed in Jokkmokk. The artist moved from Kautokeino from another city. Most people share that experience of being a guest, an outsider, a stranger, not belonging. But this guest, this stone stands in the middle of something as any person stands in the center of their existence. The sculpture leads to a search, a pilgrimage, and can be seen as a reflection of the search for him or herself or after a 'something'. The question may seen worn out but is, nevertheless, relevant: What is the actual goal, the way or the ending place? The form of the labyrinth reminds us of the shape of the Sami drum which was the tool used by the shaman. Source from the Signboard.

This is called 'The Flow of Time'. It is a white wooden sculpture with steel cables. The sculpture is inspired by a loom for making bands, a brilliant ancient tool used to weave threads into a band. The handicraft continues in new contexts and transcends time in a fascinating way. Everything is woven and belong together. Source from the Signboard.

I thought it looked like a love to me. I stopped taking photos of the sculptures after this one. They were distributed around the park.

We saw a signboard for a botanical garden next to the park. It is a beautiful landscape inside the garden with a small stream and the plants (which has names written on a small sign), although there were lots of mosquitoes and flies because it was warm then.
