The Story

160618: We woke up to a beautiful view in Fågelsjön. Prof Sweet Tooth parked next to a lake and the morning scene was spectacular with the clouds mirroring in the still waters. He cooked canned food that morning. Beef with rice. Tastes good. Well, all outdoor food tastes good. I was surprised he cooked rice in the morning because that was more of a Asian meal rather than his type of meal. Haha!

From there, he drove to Hällingsåfallet (pronounced as 'heh-ling-so-fah-lert'). Fallet = The waterfall. So, you can guess we went to see a waterfall. This is one of Sweden's largest 'living' ravine with a 43m fall. Living because the mist clouds from the falls create an environment that allows lichens and mosses to grow here in the damp. These species are threatened due to the expansion of hydro power. Source from the Signboard.

This place is really worth going to, although I won't recommend you to come here just for this place as it requires 9 hours of drive from Stockholm. But if you are exploring the north, this is worth a detour. I was gobsmacked when I saw the waterfall. The rush of the waters down into the ravine. It was so powerful and with the misty clouds, it was amazing! This place is catered for tourists too as there is a nice little cottage that even has a broom inside! The paths are well maintained and there are also benches around with a firewood supply too, so you can guess that there is a spot to build a fire.

This is the view from the top of the waterfall. There is a bridge over it. Standing over it is really scary. One side is the calm river before the waterfall and the other side will kill you.

We were also very lucky to catch sight of 2 rainbows! One can only see this if there is a good amount of sunlight. What a beautiful place!
