Slim River : White Water Rafting

24052014 - Today, I go white water rafting at Slim River. The first time I went white water rafting was in Gopeng and I did not have any photos to share with you. Fortunately, the organiser snapped photos of us in this activity! Yay! I finally see myself in action. I paid RM180 for this event which includes snacks during the break from rafting, toilet to wash up and lunch. As you can see from the photos, the name on the rafts is PieRose. Pie is the man in charge and Rose is his wife's name. Very sweet, right? My friends and I drove to Tanjung Malim and from there, we drove to the area of Slim River. When we reached, Pie gave us a briefing on the safety procedures - helmet, lifejacket and paddle. All of us were transported to Slim River via a pickup truck. It was a bumpy ride to the venue.

There were 48 participants, and my friends and I were the last to leave. The guider, Abang Mok who maneuvered the raft was a cool and calm person. I could see he has many years of experience based on his calm nature. He was very good in giving us directions to shift on the raft - over left, over right, forward, back. Now, Slim River has a grade of Rapid 3 and a few Rapid 4, hence we were moving around the raft pretty frequent. I was so tired after close to 10 minutes. I doubt I contributed any form of paddling although I did paddle in the waters, but maybe insignificant. It was a 5km distance and we took about 3 hours to finish the route, including a 30 minute break where we snacked on biscuits, an apple and a Mars chocolate bar. Food was very much welcomed.

Here, we were approaching a 3meter drop. As we dropped, I was engulfed by the waters, and yes, I drank the stream water. I thought I was going to fall off the raft. I even let go of the rope because if I don't, I will scrape my skin against the rocks.

The end of the route. We could not go further because the water was shallow.

That is us, the guider (he has a small frame but he is very strong. I am truly amazed by his strength) and Mr Pie, the man on the right. He sat in the same raft as us, and you can safely conclude that both of them did most of the paddling.
