02052014 - Today, our itinerary is to do island hopping! It is to 4 Island. I was hoping if we could go to Phi Phi Island, but that is not part of the plan. We woke up early to get our breakfast at one of the restaurants. This is how the hotel looks like. The reception area. The rooms are in another building which is further inside. We went for a walk to the restaurant.
For breakfast, I had nasi dagang. Rice steamed in coconut milk. Yummy. Not spicy either although there are chili flakes.
After breakfast, I went for a walk along the river which is on the way back to my hotel. There are many statues of animals in Krabi Town. I saw the crab. Now, the crab has nothing to do with the word 'Krabi' although there could be a similarity. The Mud Crab sculpture implies the family from Aesop's fable 'The Crab and its Mother' that the parents must teach their children to be well-behaved, have self-discipline and respect the elder to suit the motto of Krabi Province - "Krabi Lively Town, Lovely People".
The White-Breasted Sea Eagle is a white-bellied sea eagle found at Kanaab Nam Cliff. A pair of these eagles could be found there. The eagle symbolises comprehensive knowledge, self sufficiency, responsibility and consideration for others - Fly High, Look Far and Reach Out Goal.
And this is Kanaab Nam Cliff (Khao Khanab Nam) where you can find the white bellied sea eagles. This is an iconic landmark of Krabi where the 2 mountain of 100-metre high cliff sits on the banks of Krabi River. Skeletons can be found and stories has it that there were people settling in the area but were cut off by flood and vanished. There is a boat service to visit Khao Khanab Nam but I did not take it because there was no time for it.
We started our island hopping from Noparathara Beach. Some of my friends were surprised we did not embark from Ao Nang Beach. I have no questions. I just want to go island hopping.
Check out the row of boats waiting for customers! We boarded ours, and our first destination was Tup and Mao Island. Before we even boarded the boat, my water bottle spilled its contents in my dry bag. So, everything - passport, food, monies and powerbank were all wet. My powerbank met its demise then with its cable rusted. It took us 40 minutes to get to the islands.
GoPro camera versus...
Monopod with my handphone attached.
The minute I saw the islands, I was in shock. There were so many boats, so many visitors. So many humans. I have never seen so many boats lined up for island hopping. Well, I have not been to many islands anyway. Mao and Tup Island is connected by sand. Hence, one can walk from one island to the other if the water level is not high. I saw a kayak went across the islands. But we walked. It was just a 70m distance. When we reached, the water level was at my ankle. The water is warm. The seawater so green. The sand is fine. The sun is really hot. I got extreme sunburnt during my island hopping. Face, arms, and head affected.
I went up Tup Island and could see a better view. There was also a hut selling drinks and snacks. I did not buy anything. I brought some biscuits.
We stayed in the island for an hour. When we returned to the boat, the water level was at my thighs.
Next island - Chicken Island for some snorkelling.
