Did you know that this year is Visit Malaysia Year 2014? It is the time to explore my own country. I hope I get some good rates to travel domestically. Last month, my company sent out an email on a series of dance night that was going to be held in the Auditorium in the Lake Gardens. I did not know that the Lake Gardens has an auditorium. Now, in this series of dance night which went on for 5 nights was to showcase the different kinds of local dance. Since I could not attend the dances held on the weekdays, I attended the one on a Saturday night. I am so glad I went. I totally enjoyed the dance. I was making slight movements with the beat of the music.
08032014 - The dance event starts at 8.30pm, but my sister and I decided to go a bit earlier for fear of losing our way, and not being able to find the venue. We drove around the area twice, and it turns out the road was blocked due to construction, and hence we have to park outside and walk in. It was a hot night, and the haze was bad. But I forgot all that when the emcee came on stage. Oh I forgot to mention, this event is free, hence, my attendance. The dances were beautiful, performed by Aswara Dance Company. They were energetic and passionate. You can see it from the moves. It was a 1.5 hour event. I took some photos and videoed some too which I posted on my Instagram - ngshiyan.
As the grand finale, the final performance is a dikir barat. This is a musical form that involves singing in groups and often in a competitive setting. I remembered we used to do this performance in school, and we competed against classes. It brought back memories of my school days.
