MV Doulos Book Fair : Biggest floating book fair

Do you remember once upon a time, the biggest floating bookfair came to Malaysia? It was in 2011. Super excited I was, to hear of these news. The location was in Port Klang, and because I was so bad in directions, I felt really brave to go there by myself. Well, I am still bad in directions anyway. Some things never change.

So, on this special day, 08 October 2011, I drove to Port Klang to see MV Doulos, a super huge ship. It was the first time I boarded a ship. Maybe I should consider including going on cruises as part of my travel plans. Cruise = Expensive = Plans deferred. I paid a small fee to enter the ship. It was RM2, if my memory does not fail me. I was anxious to get there, and when I did, I felt really proud of myself. However, I was slightly disappointed when I walked in, because the book fair was really small. Anyway, it is kind of too much to expect a ship to house a huge book fair, right?

This ship makes it way round the world, stopping for a few days to showcase their book fair. They also recruits volunteers who are keen to sail around the world. Because they sail around the world, the currency used in the book fair is by 'units'. In units, they convert that to our local currency. The price of the books is not cheap though. Plus the books sold were very limited. In addition to a book fair, there were also exhibitions on being filial to your parents and also on HIV. Very educational.

I bought this RM4 cookie because I was so hungry. It was expensive for me back then, and right now, it still is (my budget planning is bad), but I still bought it for the sake of eating on a ship.

MV Doulos! What a beauty!
