Da Nang : Part 16 - Pho, Chicken Rice Again and Cakes

Sharp at 5pm, Tay, the receptionist finished her work, and we were off to look for dinner. She is going to bring us to the best pho in town! Along the way, I noticed the bridge has gates, and it is wooden at that portion. I wondered if the bridge can be opened. There were nice views of the sun setting. I could not resist turning to look at the sun.

Remember the less-glamoured bridge I mentioned if you do not use the Japanese covered Bridge. Yes, this is the bridge. Don't worry. It is sturdy and safe.

The best pho in town is in front of the cloth market. To differentiate the tailors and other sellers in town, they can speak relatively better English. First, they will ask how long are you staying. Second, they will ask you when did you arrive in Hoi An. Third, they will ask you to visit their cloth shop. I understood the differentiation after being approached twice. Well, a tailor will definitely need English to understand the foreigner's requests.

This, I present to you, the lady seller with the best pho in town!

Big Bowl of pho for VND35,000 (USD1.80 / RM5.40). Small bowl costs VND25,000. If you ask me how it is, it is definitely way better than the one I had in Da Nang

Then, we went to the market to buy squid. VND150,000 (USD7.50 / RM22.50) for 500g. My friend who cooks said this is cheap, and so we proceeded to buy them. I cannot argue with someone who cooks!

We went to the best chicken rice in town as recommended by Tay. It was, coincidentally, the one that caught our noses the first night we were in Hoi An. The one that 'inspired' us to look for chicken rice.

Totally agree that this is the best chicken rice. The meat is not hard. The white strips are papaya. VND45,000 (USD2.30 / RM6.90). Okay, this is an expensive chicken rice because the chicken is the drumstick.

So, this chicken rice stall is opposite this old building. I do not remember what it is. But I caught a photo of the shop next to the chicken rice stall. I am sorry! It is the best I got!

We continued our walk, and saw a local game being played. The player is blindfolded and with the guiding shouts of his supporters accompanied by the loud cymbal clash from the organiser, he needs to walk up and smash the claypot hanging. If he manages, he wins a prize.

Remember, the Japanese Covered Bridge. That is how it looks like at night. Yes, very poor shot. I agree. I took this photo from the less-glamoured bridge.

We went to have dessert in one of the cafes (Cargo Cafe) managed by the owner of Morning Glory.

This cafe has a restaurant upstairs too.

What we took : Lamingtons - brownie sprinkled with grated coconut. VND27,000 (USD1.40 / RM4.20).

Pavlova with slices of mango dribbled with passion fruit juice. VND52,000 (USD2.70 / RM8).

Brownie cheese cake. VND52,000 (USD2.70 / RM8).

The drinks we had - iced milk coffee and hot black coffee - VND32,000 each which does not taste like the local coffee. Of course, by now, I would be an expert in Vietnamese coffee! Hee.. And passion juice for VND42,000.

After desserts, it was more walk and enjoying the night breeze. Because we were just too full. Especially me!
