Day 1 of Pyrenees Drive
Here is a summary of what is spent on Day 1. We did spend on food but I think that is as-you-wish costs, so I am not writing it down.
Route: Stockholm -- Denmark -- Germany (slept in a place which is 1 hour from Hamburg)
Must-Incur Costs :
(1) Petrol in Stockholm - SEK618.14 = EUR62
(2) Petrol in Malmo - SEK198 = EUR20
(3) TWO Bridge Ticket in Denmark - SEK425 + DKK235 = EUR43 + EUR31 = EUR74
The Story
010915: The last-minute preparation was difficult. We filled up the 10liter container with tap water. I was surprised when Prof Sweet Tooth led me to the basement to collect tap water. He said it is very fresh. The freshest supply the house can get. Then, it was time to fill up the car. It was filled to the brim because Prof Sweet Tooth is bad in arranging items in the car. Before we left Stockholm, we detoured to a shopping mall to buy some food for the drive - cinnamon bread and juice. Ignore the price. Everything in Sweden is expensive.

We started at noon. It was driving on the highway because our aim was to reach Paris the next night. We stopped to have a burger set at Burger King at south Sweden and it costs SEK72 (about RM36). I was like WHAT? Then, my friend let me take the driver's seat. It was a bit of anxiety, nervousness and worries as I took the seat. I have not driven a manual car for 14 years, let alone drive on the left side. I did take a 2-hour manual driving lesson in April. But looks like I needed more. As expected in all new manual drivers, the car jerked, and engine died a few times. I drove for a few kilometres on the straight road in Sweden and I think my friend had his heart in his mouth. Haha! When we were to switch drivers again, I gave him a heart attack again in my attempt to brake without pressing the clutch. And the engine died again. So, he learnt from his mistake and drove until 4am. I was already asleep by then due to jetlag. It takes
about a week for the jetlag to wear off. An hour a day.

There were not much photos on Day 1 of our drive because it was mostly a highway drive. It was cloudy, gloomy and dull. There was no sign of the sun. We reached Denmark at midnight, crossing 2 very expensive bridges. The drive continued all the way to Germany, where my friend pulled over next to a corn field, an hour drive from Hamburg. I was fast asleep.
