Taman Negara : Part 1 - Day 1: The Drive and the Boat Ride

01052015 : It is a long weekend. 1 May is a public holiday because it is Labour Day! That is a Friday. And Sunday is a public holiday because it is Wesak Day, and so Monday becomes a public holiday too. So, we have 4 days straight of holiday. Knowing myself, I know I cannot be at still in my room or in KL. So, I decided to utilise my Taman Negara voucher for this long weekend! I bought a RM50 voucher from Nusa Holiday Village during the Matta Fair in March 2014 with my sister. Back then, she told me to wait for her to utilise the voucher. Since she is not available to be part of the trip, I went with my youngest sister. Just the 2 of us. Anyway, it is not a free voucher, but the price of the package is cheaper compared to buying off the website. I booked a 4-day, 3-night package for RM514 with a view of the river. There are 2 options - view with the garden or the river. I did not take the garden because I was afraid of mosquitoes.

We started our drive at 8.15am from Kuala Lumpur and thanks to Waze, we managed to avoid the traffic at Genting Highlands highway. It took us about 5 hours to reach the car park in Tembeling. It was a very straight road drive once we exited Jerantut at the highway. It was such a beautiful weather for a drive. I parked my car at the allocated parking lot, and it is RM5 per night. The parking lot is locked after 10pm, and hence, it is safe. There is an open parking lot opposite it, and you can park at your own risk, though.

Out from the parking lot, we walked towards the jetty. It is very close by. Probably like 5 minutes walk. There were shops open for you to have a meal. As for us, we decided to have our lunch at one of the Floating Restaurant next to the jetty.

This is the view from the top of the stairs before going down towards the jetty. There were lots of repair works going on due to the flood that recently hit the state in December 2014. Some of the floating restaurants got overturned, and the operator that I dealt with, Nusa Holiday Village, their restaurant was affected by the flood, and I got worried when I saw the empty restaurant. But it turns out their boat services were still available.

The floating restaurant is connected to the shore by a short plank. It is safe. For lunch, I had fried rice and it costs me RM9. A bit burnt but I was hungry.

During lunch, my sister started her bird watching activity while I snapped random photos of everything.

Ta-da, I present to you Nusa Holiday Village Floating Restaurant. I asked around the locals when I saw the empty restaurant, and surprisingly, none of them could give me the answer that the restaurant was hit by the flood but the boat services are still available. Luckily, we took a photo of the operator's advertisement along the route and called the number. The person who answered told us that the boat is punctual and will arrive as scheduled at 3.05pm. There were a few boat services in a day. So, we waited in the empty restaurant.

It was just a 15 minute boat ride to Nusa Holiday Village. One can opt to drive there but the roads are not well-paved. If you drive a 4WD, then it is possible. We cruised down Tembeling River in the motorboat. On the left of the river is Taman Negara, my country's National Park, the oldest tropical rainforest in the world, while on the right is the Hutan Lipur Ulu Tembeling (Ulu Tembeling Recreational Forest).

I was happy to finally step foot in Taman Negara.
