On that day, the 4 of us (a requirement for 4) drove to Pulau Indah Marina Bay. We were there by 10am. I have never been to the Marina before. It was quiet. We met with a Captain Ali from Turkey. He gave us a quick course on sailing - the jargons and the physics for about an hour. Honestly, I was confused. I don't have a physics brain. It was interesting to learn new words and I try to process as much as I can. Before we embarked on our sailing activity, we have to sign an indemnity form.
At 11am, we walked to the boat and started to set up the equipment - rope and sails. The cabin was a bit stuffy. So, all of us stayed out. The boat has a name - Leopad Dream. What a dreamy gorgeous name.
Soon, we were out from the marina and sail towards the Straits of Malacca. It was an exciting feeling. I get to maneuver at the Captain spot, and the steering wheel was very sensitive to the slightest turn. The Captain had a GPS attached and we could see where we are heading. Then, the worst ever that could happen to me became a dream come true - I had seasick. Argh! Plus with my menses on the first day. I have no idea whether my cramps are from the seasick or the menses. I wanted to lie down so badly, but the cabin was stuffy. I had a headache. I vomited out into the straits and there was not much vomit. This is the third time I have a seasick. I am pretty sure the third time is a sure sign that I am not meant for boat activities. First time - on a ferry to Lombok in 2010. Second time - on a boat back from Redang Island in 2012.
The Captain provided us lunch which was crushed wheat. It is a type of Turkish food. Filing. Nutritious. I could not finish it because my stomach was still in knots.
We sailed for about 5 hours to Royal Selangor Yacht Club. And I was badly sunburnt, because I did not think I would get sunburnt if I sat under the shade. But the heat was overwhelming.
The group who went sailing today.
Hello, this is me. :-) It is nice to finally meet my readers face-to-face albeit in a most non-presentable manner. The badly sunburnt me. My face peeled after 2 days. Good thing I was in long sleeves and long pants.
What I think of sailing : It is a calming and exciting activity if the wind is a breeze, and you love life on the waters. And if you are not a seasick person. It is always fun to try something new.
