Craft Museum : Malaysia's Treasure

291114 : Today, my friend invited me to her graduation in Prince Hotel. Congratulations to her for getting the best student award in her MBA qualifications. So proud to be her friend. While I was parking my car, I noticed that I was parked right in front of the Craft Museum! I have never been to the Craft Museum, and I am trying to visit Kuala Lumpur's tourist attractions. I saw two tourist buses entering the compound, and I thought to myself that I need this place too! Which I did right after the convocation. I bought a ticket to enter into the museum which costs RM3. And for kids is RM1 while students in uniform goes in for free. Good thing there is no differentiation for foreigners.

The exhibition in the museum showcased the various traditions of weddings in Malaysia from Chinese to Malay to Indians to the orang asli i.e. the aborigines. There is also exhibition on the handicraft by Master Handcrafts. Master Handcraft is an award given to a person who is skillful in their area of crafts. You will be awed looking at their masterpiece.

Master Handcraft in woodcarving the Meh Meri way. Meh Meri is one of the local tribes. His famous work is the tiger holding a chain.

Master Handcraft in basket weaving. His famous work which is the 3-tiered basket was showcased in a UNESCO exhibition. And it is for sale.

I walked out the exhibition and saw the sign towards Artist Village. I did not go to the Artist Village but instead I ended up at the Craft Village where I did batik painting! It is RM15 to paint one. I selected a picture of a lizard. It has been pre-drawn for you with candle wax and one just has to colour.

And ta-da, my art. I thought it look kind of weird. I mean, the colouring. But it's okay. I am pleased I tried something new today. It feels like a tourist thing to do, but I am appreciating one of Malaysia's culture, and if I need to explain to people, I need to know what I am talking about.
