Da Nang : Part 7 - Food Search in Hue

Guess what! I read a few days ago in the newspaper that Air Asia is going to remove the flight route to Da Nang. My colleague commented that I was sure lucky to fly here then. But to me, I think it was alright to remove the route, because you can still visit Da Nang if you fly to Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi (where Air Asia still flies to). Unlike countries where Air Asia totally remove that single flight route and the traveller has to find another method to get there. For example, UK!

Back to my Da Nang post.

We crossed the bridge, and walked at the shophouses that were opposite the Imperial City. Really, it is just opposite. You can see the moat from where we sat. So, we walked, and saw a restaurant filled with people. Hungry, we decided to stop and eat there.

The first thing we ordered - beer. Now, the beer here is cheap at VND10,000 (RM1.50) for a 330ml local beer. How I know this. Because my friend says so. I don't know much about drinking. So, if my friends said it is cheap, it is cheap.

Then, we had fried squid. VND60,000 (USD3 / RM9).

My friend saw the persons behind us having this dish, and we were curious. So, we asked the person if we could look at his plate, and he gave me his plate which left 3 balls. He told us to finish them. The locals are generous. I am so thankful to always meet lovely people in my trip. Anyway, it turns out to be fishballs. Spongy. We ordered a plate of our own. VND50,000 (RM7.50).

The time is 6pm. Night is approaching, and the reflection of the Imperial City in the waters were gorgeous.

We had steamed prawns - VND50,000 (USD2.50 / RM7.50)

Clams (VND50,000) with the most yummy sauce and bread (VND10,000) is dipped inside the sauce. This place has the best bread ever. My friend said it's the sauce that made the difference. It was so nice, that I requested for another plate of bread.

It is 6.30pm, and night has set in.

Beef fried noodle for VND55,000. If I stop writing the converted currency, it is because I cannot convert them that easily in my head.

The last dish we called - fried fish. VND50,000 (USD2.50 / RM7.50).

After dinner, we continued our walk, and found a place recommended by Lonely Planet. How we know that is because there is a banner that states so. I realise that competition must be so great in Hue and Hoi An when most stalls have a paper / banner with recommendations from Lonely Planet / Trip Advisor / customers of the stall.

We passed by a souvenir shop and decided to go in to have a look. Good thing we did, because we exited through the back way, and saw a night market going on. There were seafood stalls being set up with lots of customers enjoying the river breeze.

Stones on the road have carvings on it. How unique.

About 99% of the shops has a slope at the stairs to push the motorcycles inside the shop.

We went back to the hotel and went to the rooftop to catch a view of the river. The bridge was emitting different lights, similar to the one in Da Nang. The best colour is the yellow colour which is the brightest of all. It was kind of scary at the rooftop because there was no one around except us. And it was dark.

After admiring the view from the rooftop, we went for a walk around town. Saw lots of hotel in the area. Hence, you need not booked in advance either. We randomly walked into a few and they showed us their hotel rooms.

Tomorrow, we are headed for Hoi An, the reason behind this trip.
