Sofea Jane Waterfalls : Two Waterfalls!

I love making new acquaintances, and even better when they become friends. So, I did a voluntary job in the zoo and I made a new friend! I am so glad I did this voluntary job, because I met him, and he introduced me to his friends who brought me along to their trekking activities. I am really thankful to always meet nice people everywhere.

04032012 : My new friend invited me to hike to Sofea Jane Waterfalls. Located in Kemensah, Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Which is behind the National Zoo. I was so excited, because, hey, I am going to see the waterfall that Sofea Jane, a local actress, took a dip in for a film.

We could not find a parking near the entrance as the roads were narrow. But we managed to find an abandoned house with ample of space. And it was an uphill walk for about 5 minutes.

The entrance. And it was also an entrance for the ATV (All Terrain Vehicle). Yes, while others take the ATV, we walked to the waterfalls. It was muddy because of the rain.

'Air Terjun Kubang Gajah' is the real name for the waterfalls. 'Kubang' means a hole filled with water and mud where the elephant (gajah) dip themselves. Direct translation = Elephant's Muddy Hole Waterfalls.

Tyre marks left by the ATV.

Midway, we saw cyclists. There are no bicycles for rent. The cyclists brought their own. It was fun cycling downhill. But uphill, we saw the cyclists carrying their bicycles.

Here comes the ATV.

And after 45 minutes, I saw Sofea Jane Waterfalls! If you purchased the ATV package, it brings you to the Waterfalls too.

Yay to me! We got to this spot by walking on a tree trunk.

Walking on the tree trunk was difficult because upon reaching the rocks, it was wet (note the half wet, half dry), and I was close to slipping down. It was so scary because all I could think was me hitting my head on the rocks. So, we sat down and pushed ourselves downwards.

My friend heard that there was a waterfall with a 100m drop! So, we moved out from Sofea Jane Waterfall looking for that waterfall.

In the end, we did not find the 100m drop waterfall. Even the ATV guide was not aware of that.

To find the Waterfall, we crossed through river streams. Not very deep. Just till my ankle. I got sucked on by leeches along the way. The first time I saw a leech was on my finger and it freaked me out. So, I shook my finger in the water, totally forgetting that leeches love water. Realising that, I pulled the leech away. Yuck...

This is a new type of hike for me, because I am walking through paths that were blocked by branches, leaves in front of my face, and mossy rocks. Yahoo!

After walking through rivers, we reached a small waterfall - Air Terjun Lata Sham = Lata Sham Waterfalls. I am guessing Lata Sham could be the name of the person who found this.

Water slap is painful but it is so refreshing!

Then, we were back on the trail towards civilisation. Well, nothing to shout of, but it was a new place for me. So yay to that!
