Kampung Kuantan : Pretty Fireflies

This is the last place I visited in Kuala Selangor. The first place was Sekinchan on 09042012, the second place was Tanjung Sepat on 09062012, and the third place was Bukit Malawati on 23062012. I went to each place separately, having to drive about 4 hours to and fro each time, except for the Sekinchan trip. I was not the driver then.

This is Kampung Kuantan. I visited this place on 30062012. This place is one of the two villages (the other being Kampung Belimbing) in Kuala Selangor to see fireflies. There was a plaque that states Kampung Kuantan is thought to be one of the two places in the world where fireflies congregate in large numbers, which is very much wrong in thought. I just googled and found places in Philippines and USA to have the same phenomenon.

The very empty place because we reached there at 530pm. The boat ride to see the fireflies starts at 8pm.

The 'welcome' arch into the ticketing office, which was not opened yet.

I went up to the small jetty to see a better view of the river that we are going to sail on to see the fireflies.

Lots of life-jackets.

Ticket office opens at 745pm. But the queue started before then because it was a "any number to buy the ticket, but first to queue up at the jetty, first on the boat" arrangement.

Previously, it was RM40 per boat. It was increased to RM50 recently. A boat can fit a maximum of 4 people. With RM50, each gets a bottle of water, and according to the back of the ticket, insurance is part of it too.

My friends queued up to buy the tickets while I snapped photos. Sunset by the river.

The queue that starts at the jetty.

Look, I have a blue patch on my top. It is a mosquito patch. There are supposedly lots of mosquitoes but there are none when we took the boat. Instead, there were more at the waiting area.

The queue moved quite fast, as there were lots of boats. And each ride only lasted 20 minutes. There was a stairs to walk down but it was a bit uneven. No worries. Just do it slowly. Then walk across the plank and wait for the boat.

The only evidence in my camera of the fireflies. I can't catch them on camera. Or maybe because I don't know the correct functions of the camera to capture the fireflies. They are absolutely beautiful when you see them. The little lights blinked in unison on most of the mangrove trees along the river. They reminded me of Christmas string lights.

The boat ride lasted for about 20 minutes. Was the RM50 worth it? I will said yes, because Mother Nature's creations are just priceless.

Later, we had a seafood dinner at one of the restaurants in Pasir Penampang. It was just a 15 minutes' drive further up. That was the nearest seafood dinner around. It was a good meal because I was so hungry! Kampung Kuantan marks the end of my adventure in Kuala Selangor, not unless I find another treasure in Kuala Selangor to explore.
