Kukup : Part 2 - Fish Farm and Night BBQ

Back on the boat, our next destination was the fish farm. There are only 2 places to visit in Kukup. Both of which can be done on the 1st day after arrival which is what we did, or on the 2nd day right after breakfast. Since we did the visiting on Day 1, you must think we would have nothing to do on Day 2. But we had. I am going to make a historical presence tomorrow, which you would read in my next post.

There are a few fish farms in Kukup. The boat stopped us at one of the farms. There was a shop that sells some fish products like fish crackers, fish paste but none of them were made in Kukup. So, I did not buy any. We walked along the wooden boards looking at the fishes. There was a small spot reserved for tourists to try their hand in catching fish. Which I did. Obviously. And then put the fish back in the waters.

There were frequent boat rides back to Kukup. So, we got back by evening and had our snacks. There were prawn fritters and chocolate drink. It was a bit early about 5pm, and so, we decided to walk around and have an ice-cream and I bought those containers that blow out bubbles! We were going to blow bubbles. It was fun!! I love blowing bubbles.

By the time we finished playing with the bubbles, the owner and his wife were doing the barbeque. We had our dinner about 7pm. It was quite filling actually, mostly because of the soft drinks.

Because Kukup is so near to Singapore, there were many Singaporeans in Kukup. And they are so generous in playing with the fireworks. The fireworks were continuous from 8pm till 9.30pm. They even bought the red firecrackers, and they hung 3 or 4 of them together. The noise was deafening!

Our owner asked us if we wanted to buy a kongming lantern. They are sky lanterns, not encouraged because they float up to the sky and may even reach airplane level. Anyway, we bought 2 and we wrote our wishes on the lantern. It was believed the wish may come true if the lantern flies up to the sky. Some lanterns do not go airborne. I wrote - To travel around the world. And no, it did not come true this year.

After letting the lanterns into the sky, we played with our firecrackers.. the stick ones that just sizzle. Incomparable to the next door long length of firecrackers.
