Nepal : Part 3 - EBC Trek (Day 1) - Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla

15092013 - Today is the day. Today starts our adventure to Everest Base Camp. We were ready by 5.30am. We took packed breakfast from the hotel. In the box, there were 2 pieces of bread, 2 hard boiled eggs, a banana, an apple, and a packet of drink. Very energy filling. I officiated the usage of my thermos flask by requesting hot water from the hotel. Good thing no payment needed for that.

At 6am, we were outside the hotel waiting for our ride to bring us to the airport. While we were waiting, I was painting my fingernail. It was Day 2 in Nepal. Day 1 of our trek. It is really a good way to keep track of the number of days I am in Nepal. People ask me how many days have you been in Nepal, and I look at my fingers.

We were back at Tribhuvan International Airport, but this time, we went to the domestic flight area. It was reminiscing of the times I went to Pokhara to go to Annapurna Base Camp. We checked in at 6.30am at Tara Air. For Everest Base Camp, the destination to head to is Lukla. One can opt to not take a flight. You can walk from Jiri to Lukla which takes about 6 days.  The locals who need to bring the provisions with the dzo (a mix breed of the yak and cow) will take that amount of days.

When it was time to board the plane, there was a bus to bring us to the plane. The plane that we boarded on can fit about 15 people only. And the best place to sit in the plane is on the left side where one can see the Himalayan mountain range. I got the right side, but it was okay, because I have seen the Himalayan mountain range on my flight to Nepal. Plus, I did switched place with my sister too who was sitting on the left side. In the flight, the stewardess gave us cotton buds and sweets to choose from to prevent blockage of air in the ear. I took both.

Up, up we go in the air. We were lucky that our flight did not get delayed. My friend who went during the 1st week of September had his flight delayed by 2 days! The rainy season was just ending, and it was not conducive for flight. So, now you know the best time to fly in September.
