Shangri-la : Part 13 - Reach Old Town of Lijiang

Happy with Tiger Leaping Gorge, we were on the road towards Old Town of Lijiang. We passed by peach plantations. And decided to stop to buy some. The tree reminds me of Edward Scissorhands. My friend tried a small slice and said it was sweet. So, we got 6 peaches.

40 minutes later, we reached the Old Town of Lijiang. Once again, no vehicles allowed inside. So, we stopped at the main road. We had not booked any accommodation in Lijiang. But, fear not, said my friend, who have been there before, because there are lots of guest houses. So, we placed our luggage with a friend while we tried our luck in any inns hoping there are vacancies.

We went into about 6 inns before my friend entered into this convenient store. I thought she went to buy snacks, but she never came out. I went in and did not see my friends. The problem of being a banana is you can't read that the word 'inn' is probably printed on the signage. I concluded that because as soon as I stepped further in, I saw that there was an inn inside!

We were happy with the place of stay. The toilet looks clean. That is the most important factor when we booked our place of stay. So after 15 minutes of knocking on 6 inns, we chose this place and paid RMB300 per room. We were staying here for 2 nights.

The very traditional door latch from inside. From outside, it was a padlock with a chain.

Once we have checked in, we walked to look for dinner. In the old town of Lijiang, I saw this method of making ginger candy. So strong the guy, swinging the dough around.

We walked on the main streets and stopped a taxi to bring us to a hotpot restaurant. So, he recommended a place for us. It was warm inside the restaurant, and with the hotpot, soon enough, we were removing our jackets. We ordered clear soup instead of the commonly-have hot and spicy soup.

My friends ticked the dishes they wanted and in about 10 minutes, our plates of raw vegetables and meat came. Our hotpot dinner came to RMB315. After dinner, it was a walk back to the village. A walk is needed after the heavy meal. Heavy for me because I drank a lot of the soup to warm myself up.

It was a quick walk back to the Old Town of Lijiang as compared to taking the taxi. The streets were bustling with people. Back at the Old Town of Lijiang  a dance was going on too. But the pace of the dance was not as quick and fun as the one in Shangri-la. So, I did not join along.

We walked around the Old Town of Lijiang looking for a travel service that could bring us around tomorrow. Finally, we settled for this one that has a package that will bring us to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Dongba Valley, Jade Water Village, and most importantly, the reason we bought this package, Lijiang Impressions.

The package costs us RMB680. Paying my last few hundred notes, I am left with RMB200 and now rely on my friends for some monies. Good thing lunch is provided tomorrow. Yay!

Hi. Which travel service are you referring to? My journey to shangri-la or my package in lijiang?
